$300,000 offences alleged

Thefts and frauds amounting to almost $300,000 are alleged against a man and a woman who faced a total of 82 charges at the Christchurch District Court.

The pair are jointly charged with stealing veterinary medical equipment – including a mobile x-ray machine – valued at $250,000.

Both appeared before Judge Brian Callaghan and were remanded for pleas to be entered on May 24.

Ashley Lyle Scarlett, 29, of Burnham, has entered no pleas to 58 charges, including theft, fraud, several of disqualified driving, shoplifting, unlawfully taking vehicles, assault, and dangerous driving. He will also appear on May 6 to apply for release on electronically monitored bail.

Melissa Adair Vos, 47, has entered no pleas to 24 charges of unlawfully taking vehicles, fraud, and theft. She remains on bail.

In many of the cases, the pair have been jointly charged.
