Twenty-one new charges have been laid against a man who is in custody after an alleged pursuit during which road spikes were deployed on September 6.
Matthew John Woods, 43, was remanded in custody, without plea, on a total of 46 charges to October 26 by Christchurch District Court Judge Tony Couch.
Woods is listed on the charges as having no fixed abode.
Woods had previously been charged with reckless driving on Telegraph Road, near Burnham, on Wednesday, and failing to stop for a police car using its lights and siren, assaulting a man with intent to avoid arrest after a burglary, 10 receiving charges including trailer registration plates, a car transporter worth $5000, a laser level worth $3100, and stealing a $22,500 tractor and a $32,900 lawn-mower,
He also faces nine charges of burglary, possession of cannabis, and possession of the class A drug methamphetamine for supply, which carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
Today, when he appeared by video-link from the prison where he had been remanded in custody, Woods faced 12 charges of receiving stolen property, two of burglary, five of obtaining by deception, possession of morphine, and supplying methamphetamine.
Woods has declined all offers of legal advice and insists on representing himself at his court appearances.
