A Hei Hei man already facing trial on fraud charges has been arrested again on five more similar charges.

Brendon Karl Dean Harris, 22, has now been remanded in custody after an appearance on a total of six charges in the Christchurch District Court today.

Harris pleaded not guilty last year to four charges of dishonestly obtaining control over a document, with police alleging he was a member of a group which was targeting elderly victims. He is due for trial before a judge-alone on April 3.

He was arrested by police today and charged with causing losses totalling $77,880 to five woman victims by deception, and a further charge of conspiring with a man to obstruct the course of justice by instructing him to make a false report of theft to a bank and to the police.

Police allege the new offending took place at Christchurch between September and January.

Duty lawyer Michael Knowles made an application for bail for Harris, but it was opposed by the police.

Judge Jane Farish heard the application and refused bail, remanding Harris in custody to a pre-trial call-over on March 24.

Mr Knowles also sought suppression of name for Harris but the judge refused that as well.
