Court House-Sept-2013-08Thefts totalling nearly $140,000 are alleged against a Halswell man who faced a total of 90 charges at the Christchurch District Court today.

The theft charges against David Ronald Cribb, a 24-year-old painter, include an allegation that he stole power tools and laser levels worth $78,000 from City Care Ltd.

Cribb was granted a registrar’s remand without needing to appear in court before a judge.

Police did not oppose Cribb’s remand on bail, and a registrar at the Christchurch Court House remanded him without plea for another appearance on September 7.

There are 58 theft charges totalling $139,890, 19 of obtaining by deception, and 13 of unlawfully interfering with cars.

He is charged with thefts of GPS units, clothing, cellphones, sunglasses, radar detector, wallets, credit cards, handbags, driver’s licence, camera, computer, watch, Lotto ticket, and a large number of different types of power tools.

Some of the charges of obtaining by deception allege he obtained grocery or food items, but several involve 50g packets of tobacco.

The charges allege offending over the last few months.
